Infrared Data Communications

Infrared Communication
Port
Infrared cannot be used with the default settings.
Preparations for Infrared Data Communications
Set the address of your infrared communications port to enable. (
Position your computer so that the port is face-to-face with the port of another computer.
Be sure the computers are not in direct contact with one another.
A port-to-port distance of 20 cm to 50 cm {8 " to 20 " } is recommended.
Do not use the suspend or hibernation function when the checkmark for [Enable
Infrared Communications] in [Start] - [Settings] - [Control Panel] - [Infrared] -
[Options] is added.
Installing Infrared Data Communications
To be able to use Infrared, be sure to follow the steps below.

In [Start] - [Settings] - [Control Panel] - [System] - [Device Manager] - [Mouse] - [Win-
dows Pointer Device], add the check mark for [Disable in this hardware profile] in [De-
vice Usage], press [OK], then press [Close]. Restart the computer.

When the message [Press <F2> to enter SETUP] is displayed, press
run the Setup Utility.

Select [Advanced] menu and set [Device] under [Serial Port B] to [IrDA].
Press
F10 . At the confirmation message, select [Yes] and press Enter .
The computer will reboot.

Select [Control Panel] - [Add New Hardware].

Press [Next] at the [Add New Hardware Wizard].

Select [No], then press [Next].

Select [Infrared] in [Hardware types] and press [Next].

Press [Next], and press [Next] again.

Select [Panasonic Infrared Port (COM2)] in [Select the port that this infrared device...].

From here on, follow the instructions given on the display followed by pressing [Next].

Press [Finish].
NOTE
When [Touchscreen] is selected under [Serial Port B] in the Setup Utility, re-
move the checkmark for [Enable Infrared Communications] in [Start] - [Set-
tings] - [Control Panel] - [Infrared] - [Options], the press [OK].
The touchscreen function can not be used with above settings.
Using touchscreen and Infrared simultaneously
To be able to use Infrared and touchscreen functions simultaneously, be sure to
follow above steps, then follow the steps below.

In the Setup Utility, select the [Advanced] menu and set [Device] under [Serial
Port A] to [Touchscreen].
Press
F10 . At the confirmation message, select [Yes] and press Enter .
The computer will reboot.

In [Start] - [Settings] - [Control Panel] - [System] - [Device Manager] - [Mouse] - [Win-
dows Pointer Device], remove the check mark for [Disable in this hardware profile] in
[Device Usage] if added, press [OK], then press [Close]. Restart the computer.

In [Start] - [Programs] - [Updd] - [Settings], remove the check mark for [Auto
Detect] in [Hardware].
Problems with Infrared data communications
An object is located between both ports.
There are other electronic devices nearby causing interference, such as a tele-
vision, VCR, wireless headphone, etc.
Direct sunlight or white glowing light, such as fluorescent lighting; can cause
interference with communications between the ports.
When moving your computer while it is transmitting/receiving data.
