Using the Manager Interface for Initial Router
This chapter contains information about basic configuration for your Model RT311 or RT314
Internet Access Gateway Router using the internal Manager interface. The initial configuration
consists of:
accessing the Manager,
naming the router,
and setting up the LAN interface, including DHCP parameters to be assigned to the
attached PCs.
After you have performed basic router configuration, proceed to
Interface to Configure the Router for Internet
configure Internet access and additional features.
Note: You can also use the browser-based setup to configure basic router features, and
later use the Manager interface to configure advanced features.

Connecting for Configuration

The Manager interface is accessible by a serial connection through the MANAGER port on the
rear panel of your router or by a Telnet connection over the local network, as described in the
following sections.
