A toner sensor is mounted inside the printer unit which is part of the chassis.
Toner low is detected by a sensor which monitors the on/off timing of the light
exiting the prismatic light guide. This light emits from the chassis of the printer
unit and passes through the prismatic light guide inside the ID.
