Tensioning the rewind spring
Make a loop in the unwound starter
N
rope and use it to turn the rope rotor
six full revolutions in the direction of
the arrow
Hold the rope rotor tight – pull out
N
the twisted rope and untangle it
Release the rope rotor
N
Slowly let go of starter rope so that
N
it winds onto the rotor
The starter grip must be drawn firmly
into the rope guide bush. If it tips
sideways: increase the spring tension by
another turn.
When the starter rope is fully extended it
must be possible to rotate the rotor at
least another half turn. If not, the spring
has been tensioned too tightly and may
break!
Remove one turn of the rope from
N
the rotor
Mount the fan housing on the
N
crankcase

Replacing broken rewind spring
Remove the rope rotor
N
The broken pieces of spring may still be
under tension and can spring apart
unexpectedly on removal from the
housing – risk of injury! Wear face shield
and protective gloves
Carefully remove broken pieces of
N
spring
Apply a few drops of non-resinous
N
oil to the new replacement spring
Position the replacement spring
N
with frame in the fan housing – the
anchor loop must be located over
the retaining lug in the fan housing
Apply suitable tools (screwdriver,
N
punch, etc.) to the recesses and
push the spring into its seat in the
fan cover – the spring slides out of
the frame
Remove the frame from the fan
N
housing

Fasten spring with screw

Reinstall rope rotor, tension rewind
N
spring and mount fan housing on
the crankcase
