Slots for expansion cards
The server can be flexibly expanded via four slots (2x PCIe x16 and 2x PCIe
x8). A second processor is required for slot 4.
The FBU for the 3.5" base-unit variant occupies one additional PCIe slot.
Therefore, for the 3.5" base-unit variant slot 2 is for FBU option.
One horizontal chassis slot is occupied by the dynamic LOM card.
Hard disk drives
Depending on the chassis the server can be equipped with 4x 3.5-inch, 8x 2.5-
inch (with 1x ODD) or 10 2.5-inch (without ODD) SAS/SATA HDD/SSD
Each HDD module can accommodate an SAS/SATA hard disk drive or an SATA
SSD drive with a maximum height of 1 inch. The module is connected to the
SAS/SATA backplane wirelessly. This allows HDD modules to be plugged in or
pulled out easily.
To control SAS hard disk drives, an additional RAID controller must be installed.
To control PCIe SSD modules an additional PCIe controller must be installed.
Mixed configurations of SAS HDDs, SATA HDDs and SSDs within the same
logical drive (RAID array) are not supported.
If the server has the corresponding RAID configuration, HDD modules can also
be replaced during operation.
Onboard SATA controller
A SATA controller is integrated on the system board; up to eight SATA hard disk
drives can be connected to the controller.
For more information on configuring the controller, see section
onboard SATA controller" on page
SAS/SATA RAID controller
The server is available with the following SAS/SATA RAID controllers for
operating the internal SAS/SATA hard disk drives:
– Modular RAID 0/1 controller with "MegaRAID functionality"
(SAS MegaRAID) for SAS1.0 and SAS2.0
RAID levels 0, 1, 10 and 1E are supported for internal hard disk drive
configurations.
