System leak check:
The 911 GT3 R is fitted with an electrical servo assisted rack and pinion
steering system.
Control of the electrical servo pump is made via terminal 61. This means
that the servo pump only operates when the engine is running and the
alternator is charging..
With the engine idling, carefully rotate and hold the steering wheel in the
full lock position to ensure the greatest possible system pressure is
achieved. Check all the lines, pipes and fittings for leakage. When
implementing the test this level of system pressure should be held for an
absolute maximum of ten seconds. If it is necessary to repeat this
procedure, a pause of at least 10 seconds should be made between
tests.
The electric servo pump is located in the luggage compartment. The fluid
reservoir is mounted directly on the pump.
The fluid level is checked with the steering in the straight-ahead position
and with the engine running at idle speed.
The rack and pinion steering and servo pump should, under no
circumstances be repaired or dismantled. Damage to the power
steering system can occur through a lack of oil circulating in the
hydraulic system. Due to the high system pressure even a small
loss of fluid through leakage can damage the servo pump.
