4.2 Fuel system
The inject ion pump is connec ted to the
engine oil cycle and requires no mainte
nance .
It has been set at the factory for oplimum
efficiency and most economica l fuel con
sumption . An inspec tion of the inJcction
pump and the adj ustment of the start of
delivery must be performed at a
MERCEDES-BENZ service station only
Dirt acc umulations in the fuel system will
result in malfunctioning of

4.2.1 Fuel prefilter
Regularly c heck fuel prefilter for soiling
(visual insp ection). Replace, if requ ired.
4.2.2 Replacing the fuel filter
Unsc rew sec uring screw of filter and
remove filter. Replace sealing ring of
nozzles und cause black exhaus t smoke
and erratic engine ope ration.
A defective nozzle must be replaced or
clc,med Spec ial skills are required for th is
job and

sho uld only be performed at a
ME'RCCDES BENZ service station.
New injection lines must be thoro ughly
cleaned prio r to installation. Blow them out
with cleaning solutio n (di esel fuel).
Caution: The arrow on the filter housin g
must point in drivi ng direct ion.
