Alternate address for installing the modem

Configuring the installer laptop IP address

One of the first steps in installing the satellite modem is to open the System Control Center on
your installer laptop so you can enter required installation parameters. Specific steps are described
in
Entering the installation parameters
Center by entering the address 192.168.0.1 and you see a Webpage cannot be found or similar
message instead of the System Control Center, try entering the address 169.254.0.1 instead. If
the System Control Center opens, use the 169.254.0.1 address. Follow the steps in
the installation parameters
on page 16, but use 169.254.0.1 instead of 192.168.0.1.
After commissioning, you can open the System Control Center by entering the address 192.168.0.1
(as long as DHCP is enabled) or www.systemcontrolcenter.com.
This appendix provides detailed information concerning the 169.254.0.1 address, including
options, recommendations, and instructions for configuring the installer laptop computer. This
appendix applies only if the 192.168.0.1 address does not open the System Control Center
before the modem is commissioned. If your modem requires the 169.254.0.1 address, read this
appendix.
If you use the 169.254.0.1 address, Hughes recommends that you configure a link-local address
on the installer laptop, as explained in
on page 100 before you install the modem.
You have several options for configuring the IP address on your installer laptop computer, as
explained below. The option you choose affects your ability to perform various installation tasks.
To enter installation parameters and subsequently monitor commissioning progress, including
state codes, which indicate installation progress, the laptop must be configured for link-local IP
address 169.254.10.10. However, you cannot browse the Internet if the laptop is configured to
use this address. After commissioning, you must use the address 192.168.0.1 with DHCP enabled
to open the System Control Center.
From the following options, choose the address configuration that best suits your preferences
and the way you work.
• Link-local IP address with a second private IP address – If you want to configure the
link-local IP address 169.254.10.10 on the installer laptop, but you do not want to remove
that address each time you go to the System Control Center, you can configure a second
private IP address, 192.168.0.2, along with the 169.254.10.10 address. For instructions see

• DHCP enabled – If you enable DHCP on the laptop (no static IP address) you can type
192.168.0.1 or www.systemcontrolcenter.com in the browser address bar anytime after
commissioning to go to the System Control Center home page. DHCP allows your laptop
on page 16. If you attempt to open the System Control
