9 – Settings and Information
You can change various settings to optimize the device for your
use environment and other requirements.

Setting the file name format

You can select the format of names given to files recorded by
this unit.
1. On the page, select the
FILE
"Menu operation procedures" on page 12)
2. Set the file name format.
Option Meaning
The 6-character file name set with the
WORD
item is used as the file name.
(default)
Example: TASCAM_0001_12.wav
The date is used as the file name (in yymmdd
format).
DATE
Example: 141001_0001_12.wav
NOTE
The date is set using the unit's internal clock. (see "Setting
the date and time" on page 15)

Setting the WORD item

On the item, press the DATA dial and move the cursor.
WORD
Then, turn the DATA dial to set the character.
In addition to the alphabet and numbers, the following
characters can be used:
! # $ % & ' ( ) + , - . ; = @ [ ] ^ _ ` { } ~

Resetting the count

On the item, press the DATA dial to reset the
COUNT INIT
count. The numbers added to file names (characters set by
or the date) created after this will restart from "0001".

Format an SD card

Follow this procedure to format an SD card.
Formatting erases all music files on the SD card and automat-
ically creates new "SOUND" and "UTILITY" folders as well as a
"dr-701d.sys" file.
CAUTION
When formatting a card, the unit should be operating on
AC power supplied by a TASCAM PS-P515U adapter (sold
separately), USB bus power supplied from a computer, or
batteries with sufficient remaining power.
If the power fails during formatting, the formatting may not
occur correctly.

(default) Execute quick formatting.

Erase and format the card.

NOTE
Using the option might restore an SD card that has

decreased writing performance due to repeated use.
3. Press the DATA dial to open a pop-up confirmation window.
