6. Use a brush to carefully remove carbon deposits from
the spark-arrester screen
Note: Replace the spark arrester if it has breaks or
holes.

7. Install the spark arrester, muffler protector, exhaust
deflector, and muffler in the reverse order of
disassembly.
8. Install the divider plate; refer to
Plate (page 28).

Removing the Engine
WARNING
The spring is under tension when installed and can
cause personal injury.
Be careful when removing the spring.
1. Park the machine on a level surface and shut off the
engine; refer to Disconnecting the Spark-Plug Wire
(page 28).
2. Ensure that the engine and the exhaust-system surfaces
are cool.

5. Remove the belts; refer to

6. Using a spring-removal tool (Toro part 92-5771),
remove the spring from the anchor bracket on the
engine deck (Figure
Note: Leave the other end of the spring attached to
the frame of the machine.

7. Remove the bolt and nut that secure the rear bracket
for the engine-deck hinge to the frame of the machine
(Figure 54).

9. Slide the engine deck rearward and out from the
forward hinge bracket
