    NSTALLATION MPORTANT NSTALLATION • Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm. • Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals, unless the telephone line has been disconnected at the network interface. • Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines. NSTALLING THE Your phone uses 3 AA-size alkaline batteries for power backup in case AC main power is off.

    NSTALLATION PTIONS Although you can use your 2-line telephone with a single phone line, you must have two lines (separate phone numbers) to use a two-line system. The following diagrams show two possible systems: Two Lines on a Single Modular Jack One type of two-line phone system uses a single RJ14 modular jack which contains both phone lines.
  • Page 10 Each Line on a Separate Modular Jack If you have two separate phone jacks, each with its own line, connect one of the phone cords to the LINE 2 jack, and connect the remaining phone cord to the LINE 1+2 phone jack located on the back of the phone.

    ESKTOP NSTALLATION Two Lines on a Single Modular Jack 1. Plug one end of the handset cord into the handset and the other end into the jack on the side of the base. Place the handset in the base. 2. Plug the power supply cord into the POWER 6V AC jack on the base and into an AC outlet.

    OUNT Two Lines on a Single Modular Jack 1. Remove the mounting bracket. Rotate it so that the bottom of the phone is flat. Reattach the wall mount bracket by inserting the tabs into the slots on the top of the unit first, and then snapping the bottom tabs into place.
  • Page 14 4. Slip the mounting holes over the wall plate posts and slide the unit down firmly into place. (Wall plate not included.) 5. Plug one end of the handset cord into the handset and the other end into the jack on the side of the base. Place the handset in the base.

    This phone is equipped with a DATA PORT jack for you to connect an auxiliary phone device, such as a fax machine, computer modem, answering machine, or even a cordless phone. DATA PORT switch phone controls the DATA PORT jack by enabling you to choose the line to be used, either line 1 or line 2.
  • Page 18 In the event that you are talking to someone on line 2 and want him to fax something to you, change the DATA PORT switch to 1 and give him the phone number for line 1. Your fax machine can now receive calls on line 1.

    ETUP ETTING THE NOTE: If you do not set the time and date, it will automatically be set when the telephone company sends the time and date with the Caller ID information. The unit resets the hour and minute each time a call is received.

    1. Press the MENU button. Time and date is shown. 2. Press SELECT. 3. Turn the SHUTTLE knob to scroll to the desired hour. 4. Press SELECT to confirm. You are now ready to enter the minutes. INUTES 1. Turn the SHUTTLE knob to scroll to the desired minute.

    SING THE EADSET 1. Press the HEADSET button. The HEADSET indicator blinks. 2. Press the line you want. 3. Wait for a dial tone. 4. Dial a phone number. 5. Press HEADSET to turn it off. NOTE: To converse using the headset, the handset must be placed in the cradle.

    SING THE PEAKERPHONE When the phone rings, the corresponding line’s indicator flashes rapidly. 1. Press the SPEAKER button. The speakerphone comes on automatically and selects a line. 2.     WITCHING ETWEEN PEAKERPHONE ANDSET To switch to the speakerphone, press SPEAKER. The speakerphone indicator comes on. To switch to the handset, pick up the handset. The speakerphone or headset goes off. To switch to the headset, press HEADSET. The headset indicator comes on.

    Use the MUTE button to interrupt a phone conversation to talk privately with someone else in the room. A conversation can be muted during speakerphone, handset, or headset use. 1. Press MUTE. The mute indicator comes on. 2. Press MUTE again to turn it off. NOTE: Switching from speakerphone to handset or headset cancels mute.

    LASH Use the FLASH button to activate custom calling services such as Call Waiting, which is available through your local telephone company. EMPORARY This feature enables pulse (rotary) service phone users to access touch- tone services offered by banks, credit card companies, etc., by pressing the TONE button to temporarily make the phone touch-tone compatible.

    EDIAL If you want to call the last number you dialed again (up to 32 digits), use REDIAL. 1. Pick up the handset, or press SPEAKER or HEADSET. 2. The line is selected automatically. (For the headset, press the line you want.) 3.

    UTOMATIC If the phone number dialed is busy, your telephone can automatically redial the number up to 10 times. It uses the line currently selected to make the calls. Press BUSY REDIAL. The BUSY REDIAL indicator comes on, and the number dials automatically.

    EDIAL IS ANCELLED • You press BUSY REDIAL again. • A call comes in on the same line between redial attempts. • You pick up the handset or press SPEAKER. • Ten attempts have been made and the line is still busy. NOTE: Auto Busy Redial is factory set to a 30-second interval between call attempts.

    OLUME The ringer, speaker, and handset/headset volumes can be set independently with the VOLUME up and down buttons. Your telephone comes with preset settings which can be adjusted to individual taste. To return to the preset settings, press both the up and down buttons simultaneously.

    PEAKERPHONE ANDSET EADSET OLUME While the phone is in use, press the VOLUME up or down buttons to the desired volume. The phone stores the setting once the button is released. NOTE: The handset and headset volumes return to the default settings after you hang up the phone.
  • Page 35 4. Press CONFER. 5. Talk to both parties. To disconnect one of the parties Simply press the line of the person you want to continue talking to, and the other party will be automatically disconnected. To disconnect both parties Simply hang up the handset, or press SPEAKER or HEADSET.

    OICE ESSAGING Provided your phone company offers voice messaging service and you subscribe to it, the VOICE MAIL and its corresponding line indicator on the base flash when the phone is not in use to indicate a message is waiting. They stop flashing after the message has been reviewed.

    ID F ALLER UMMARY CREEN The summary screen shows the current time, current date and number of new calls to be reviewed. It is displayed until any button is pressed. Within 10 seconds of receiving a new call, the summary screen is displayed and the red CALLER ID indicator comes on.

    ECEIVING AND ALLS This unit receives and displays information transmitted by your local phone company. This information can include the phone number, date, and time; or the name, phone number, date, and time. The unit can store up to 99 calls for later review.

    IALING When reviewing Caller ID records, you can dial back the numbers shown on the display by pressing the DIAL button. F YOU PROGRAMMED YOUR LOCAL AREA CODE IN THE SETUP MENU 1. Use the SHUTTLE knob to display the number you want to dial.
