    Unwinding and rewinding the mains cable ^ Hold the plug and unwind the cable to the required length (max. approx. 6.5 metres). When vacuuming for longer than 30 minutes, pull the cable out to at least of its total length, even when working close to the wall socket.

    Regulating the suction Some models have two levels of suction power: Min. = reduced suction power Max. = full suction power When switched on the vacuum cleaner will operate on full suction power. To change power level simply hold the switch down for a little while.

    Combination nozzle Hold the cleaner securely when vacuuming with the combination nozzle so that it does not fall over when you pull on the hose. A Push the release slide upwards in the direction of the arrow. B Pull the suction tube out of its holder. The combination nozzle can be used as a crevice nozzle and as a dusting brush.

    Telescopic tube Hold the cleaner securely when vacuuming with the telescopic suction tube so that it does not fall over when you pull on the hose. You can vacuum with the telescopic suction tube to reach difficult nooks and crannies. ^ Press the telescopic tube release button and take the tube off the cleaner.

    Storing the cleaner When not in use, the shaft should be locked into position and the cleaner can simply be left wherever convenient. To save space you can unlock the shaft and hang the cleaner up out of the way. To unlock the shaft simply step on the foot switch.

    Always disconnect the vacuum cleaner from the electrical supply for maintenance work and for cleaning. Switch off at the wall socket and remove the plug. The Miele filter system consists of three filters. a Dustbag b Dust compartment filter (for motor protection)

    You can replace the exhaust filter supplied with the vacuum cleaner with one of the other Miele exhaust filters if you wish (see "Optional accessories").

    Maintenance and care When to change the dustbag Change the dustbag when the colour marker in the dustbag change indicator fills the display, or sooner if it is no longer effective (see possible reasons for this below). Dustbags are designed for single use only.

    Maintenance and care How the dustbag change indicator works The dustbag change indicator is designed to measure the air permeability of a dustbag containing common household dust. Normal household dust would contain a mixture of dust, hair, carpet fibre, threads, grit etc.

    Maintenance and care Replacing the dustbag ^ Press the dust compartment release button and open the lid. The dustbag has a self-closing flap. It closes automatically when the dustbag is removed to prevent any dust escaping. ^ Pull the dustbag out by the grip next to the self-closing flap on the collar.

    Replace the dust compartment filter every time you start a new packet of Miele dustbags. A dust compartment filter is supplied with every packet of Miele dustbags. Replacing the dust compartment filter ^ Press the dust compartment release button and open the lid.

    Miele dustbags. A SUPER air clean filter is supplied with every packet of Miele dustbags. b) ACTIVE air clean filter Replace the ACTIVE air clean filter approx. once a year, or more often if it is no longer effective at absorbing odours.

    Maintenance and care Replacing the SUPER air clean filter ^ Press the dust compartment release button and open the lid. A Press the release button for the exhaust filter lid. B Open the exhaust filter compartment lid. ^ Remove the filter grille.

    Problem solving guide The vacuum cleaner has switched itself off automatically. A temperature limiter will switch the cleaner off automatically if, for instance, large articles have blocked the suction tube or when the filter bag is full or contains too much fine dust. A heavily soiled exhaust or dust compartment filter can also be the cause of overheating.

    Accessories ACTIVE air clean filter (supplied as standard with some models) The ACTIVE air clean filter is a special active charcoal filter which absorbs odours from the dust collected in the dustbag, and therefore helps to prevent a build-up of odours occuring. Do not use aroma capsules in your cleaner if you use this filter.
