Static electricity, although harmless to you, can seriously damage computer components and parts.

Your computer has one PCI adapter connector and one PCI Express x16 adapter connector. To install a PCI adapter: 1. Open the computer cover. See “Opening the cover” on page 12. 2.

    Drive specifications Your computer comes with the following factory-installed drives: v An optical drive in bay 1 (some models) v A 3.5-inch diskette drive in bay 2 (some models) v A 5.25-inch hard disk drive Any bay that does not have a drive installed has a static shield and bay panel installed.

    Installing a drive in bay 2 To install an optical drive in bay 2: 1. Open the computer cover. See “Opening the cover” on page 12. 2. Pivot the drive bay assembly upward to gain access to the cable connections and remove the drive cables from the drive.

    4. Remove the metal shield from the diskette drive bay by using a flat-blade screwdriver to gently pry it loose. 5. Remove the plastic panel in the bezel by squeezing the plastic tabs that secure the panel on the inside of the bezel. 6.

    Replacing the battery Your computer has a special type of memory that maintains the date, time, and settings for built-in features, such as parallel-port assignments (configuration). A battery keeps this information active when you turn off the computer. The battery normally requires no charging or maintenance throughout its life; however, no battery lasts forever.
