Ribbon Drive Service Check

In normal operation, the ribbon knob rotates counterclockwise
whenever the carrier moves to the left.

Action
Remove and inspect the ribbon. Make sure the
knob turns with even, moderate force and the
ribbon feeds correctly.
Inspect the gear train from the ribbon motor to
the ribbon drive post.
Check the
"Printhead-to-Platen Gap
Adjustment" on page
If printing seems normal, but the ribbon is not
moving, remove the ribbon and turn power on.
The ribbon drive post should turn several times
during POST. Disconnect the ribbon motor
connector CN19 from the main logic board.
The winding resistance should be
118 ohms ± 5 between pins:
1 and 6, 3 and 5, 2 and 6, 4 and 6.
No other combination of pins should have
continuity. If a problem is found, replace the
ribbon motor and gear plate assembly.
