Overview
Catalyst 10/100Base-T Ethernet Hub Upgrade
Catalyst 10/100Base-T Ethernet Hub Installation Guide
This installation guide explains how to replace an existing 10Base-T ethernet
hub with a 10/100Base-T ethernet hub. It contains the following sections:
Pre-Installation Software Commands
Removing Hardware
Installing 10/100Base-T Hub Hardware
Installing 10/100Base-T Cabling
Final Installation Steps
The 10/100Base-T ethernet hub provides a communication link between the
test and user computers, and between the test system and an external network.
The new hub has two major advantages over 10Base-T systems. The first is
that the test system no longer needs to occupy its own subnet on a customer's
network. The second is that the 10/100Base-T hub filters out network traffic
not destined for the test or user computers. This isolates the test system from
routine network traffic, permitting private communication between the test
and user computers.
The 10/100Base-T ethernet hub acts as a gateway between the test system and
the user's network. The 10/100Base-T hub contains two network segments.
One is internal, permitting the test and user computers to communicate at 100
Mbit/second. The other connects the test system to the customer's network,
and may be manually switched to operate at either 10 Mbit/second or 100
Mbit/second.
