TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE: ELECTRONIC GAS CONTROL SYSTEM

Note: Before troubleshooting the gas control system, make sure the external gas shutoff valve (located at gas supply inlet)
is in the "ON" position.
Important: Valve system troubleshooting should only be performed by a qualified service technician.
SYMPTOM
1. Nothing happens when fireplace
is turned On/Off (pilot does not
spark).
2. Igniter is sparking, but main
burner does not light.
3. Main burner comes on,
but then goes out.
4. Soot is present on logs and
glass.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
A. Remote Control is not functioning
properly.
B. Gas is not reaching fireplace.
C. Unit is not receiving power.
D. Damaged igniter wire.
E. Damaged pilot assembly.
F. Batteries low.
A. Gas is not reaching fireplace.
B. Air in gas line.
C. Loose wires to valve.
D. Loose wires to ignition module.
E. Loose sensor wire.
F. Low voltage.
A. Gas is not reaching fireplace.
B. Loose wires to valve or ignition
module.
C. Pilot flame is not engulfing sensor.
D. Obstructed vent system.
A. Excessive flame impingement on logs. • Check for proper placement of logs, volcanic stone, and
B. Improper air shutter opening.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
• Check that wall switchplate is set to REMOTE
(if remote was used).
• Operate fireplace from wall switchplate.
• Replace batteries in Remote Control and/or Receiver.
• Check gas supply and gas shutoff valves.
• Check building circuit breakers to ensure power
is on to fireplace.
• Check for visible cracked casing, cuts, etc.
• Check pilot assembly for visibly broken spark electrode, etc.
• Check voltage on D.C. terminal of batteries in Remote Control.
The value should be around 3.0V.
• Check gas supply and gas shutoff valves (call a service
technician, if required).
• Call a service technician.
• Check control compartment for any obvious loose wiring
(call a service technician, if required).
• Ensure blue and white (2) wires are securely connected to
valve (call a service technician, if required).
• Check control compartment for any obvious loose wiring
(call a service technician, if required).
• Ensure sensor wire connection is secure to purple wire of
ignition control (call a service technician, if required).
• Test voltage at AC terminals of module for 24 VAC. If no volt-
age, replace module (call a service technician, if required).
• Check electrical connections between module and gas control.
If okay, replace gas control (valve) (call a service technician,
if required).
• Check gas supply and gas shutoff valves.
• Check control compartment for any obvious loose wiring
(call a service technician, if required).
• Call a service technician.
