Removal
AII Shindaiwa saws leature cast alu lin um
cylinders with hard-chrome plated bores.
• Cylrnder bores are pee ed lor oil retention .
produc ing an extremely durable and long­
lived surlace.
• Excep t lor Model 357 (Sec tion 13) , Ile
cylinder is secured by four bolts thread ing
into Ihe c rankcase throu gh an integral
cylinder base fl ange .
• Add itional cy li nder- to-cra nkcase ali gnme
is provided by a locatin g "spl got" (except
Model 357) that engages a matching bore
in the crank case .
• AII Shindalwa saw models except 300 -300S
fe ature a two-r ing piston.
• The second piston rin g allows the engine lo
develop more power through better seall ng ,
and also provides better piston suppor for
longer produc t Ilfe.
• The cutawa y or "sli pper s ir " plston
provides a shor er pa hway lor Ihe incom­
rn g luel-alr ixture to coo l he u derside o
th e pisto n crown , enabling lhe engi e to be
operated at a higher state o tune .
• A caged-needle piston pin bearing is
standard on all Shindaiwa saws.

STEP 1. Remove the air cleaner and cyl lnder
cove rs , and then remove the alr c leaner
and carbu retor as desc ribed in Section
3.
On saw models with bool-mounted carbu re­
tors, pu sh lhe rubber carb retor boot
th rough he ca rbu re tor flan ge in lhe a r ' ox
(Figure 72)
STEP 2. Di sconnect the spark plug lead ,
unscrew the spark plug. and remove lhe
mulller.
STEP 3. Remove t e four cylin der base
rnou nting screws .
