Adding New Drives to Your ix4-300d Network Storage

Make sure you are installing drives qualified for use with your ix4-300d. Refer to
http://support.lenovoemc.com for a list of approved drives.
1.
Power down your ix4-300d, and then disconnect the power cord.
The ix4-300d must always be powered down when installing or replacing hard drives.
2.
Remove the cover to access the drive bays:
3.
If you are installing drives in a diskless ix4-300d, locate the four mounting brackets included with
the ix4-300d.
If you are replacing an existing hard drive, pull the appropriate mounting bracket handle to remove
the drive from the slot, and then remove the old drive from the bracket.
Make sure you remove the correct drive!
4.
Mount a new hard drive on the bracket with the drive's SATA connector facing away from the
handle.
5.
Insert the mounted drive into the appropriate drive bay slot.
6.
Install additional drives as needed.
When installing new drives in a diskless ix4-300d, you can install all four drives at once, or you
can install fewer drives if desired. The available RAID options will depend on the number of drives
installed.
7.
When you have finished installing drives, replace the cover, then reconnect the power cord. If the
ix4-300d does not power up automatically, press the button on the front panel.
8.
If you have installed four new drives in a diskless ix4-300d, it will automatically create a RAID
array with the new drives. If you have replaced a hard drive that was part of an existing RAID, the
RAID will rebuild automatically.
