spring pressure is released. Remove all bolts,
clutch disc and pressure plate assembly.
• Remove automatic transmission (if so equipped).
a. Lower engine, secured by the hoist, and support
engine on blocks.
b. Remove starter and converter housing under
pan.
c. Remove flywheel-to-converter attaching bolts.
d. Support transmission on blocks.
e. Disconnect throttle linkage and vacuum modula­
tor line.
f. Remove transmission-to-engine mounting bolts.
g. With the hoist attached, remove blocks from the
engine only and slowly guide the engine from
the transmission.
ON ALL SERIES EXCEPT CS 10-20-30:
• Remove clutch housing.
• Loosen clutch mounting bolts a turn at a time (to
prevent distortion of clutch cover) until the
spring pressure is released. Remove all bolts,
clutch disc and pressure plate assembly.
11. Mount engine in engine stand and remove lifting
device and lifting adapter.

Removal (G Series)

1. Remove vehicle grille as outlined in Section 13.
2. Drain cooling system and disconnect heater hoses
at engine; disconnect radiator hoses at engine.
3. Disconnect automatic transmission cooler lines at
radiator.
4. Remove fan guard and radiator - position
headlamp wiring out of way.
5. Remove radiator upper tie bar and center support.
6. Disconnect battery cables at battery and at radiator
support baffle.
7. Disconnect engine wiring harness at dash mounted
fuse panel; at cowl attachments, and position loose
harness assembly on engine.
8. Disconnect oil pressure gauge, if so equipped.
9. Raise vehicle on a hoist and disconnect:
• Fuel line (from tank) at fuel pump.
• Engine ground strap(s).
• Battery cables at frame-mounted clip - lay cables
across engine.
• Speedometer cable at transmission.
• Exhaust pipe at manifold and at pipe hangers -
then remove exhaust system from vehicle.
• Transmission at crossmember.
10. Disconnect clutch linkage and/or transmission
linkage and remove cross shaft as outlined in
Section 7.
11. Remove propeller shaft as outlined in Section 4 -
install plug in transmission extension.
12. Remove engine mount through bolts.
13. Remove crossmember-to-engine mount bracket
(right side only) attaching bolts, but do not remove
bracket at this time.
14. Lower vehicle on hoist - leave vehicle on hoist and
approximately 12 inches off the floor.
15. Working from inside the vehicle - remove the
engine access cover.
16. Remove air cleaner assembly.
17. Disconnect linkage from carburetor throttle lever,
disconnect carburetor fuel inlet line and remove
carburetor from manifold.
18. Disconnect power brake vacuum line at inlet
manifold.
19. Disconnect spark plug wires from plugs and
position wires out of the way.
20. Remove the ignition coil and the engine rear lifting
bracket.
21. Position Tool J-24680-2 (fig. 2L) to the engine and
install with provided bolts (fig. 3L).
22. Attach lifting device to Tool J-24680-2 (fig. 4L).
23. With the aid of an assistant, raise the engine
slightly to remove weight from engine mounts; then
remove the right mount frame bracket and mount.
24. With assistant inside the vehicle, continue raising
the engine while moving the engine assembly
forward and out of vehicle (fig. 5L).
Check often when removing the
CAUTION:
engine to make sure that all disconnects have
been made, and that engine does not interfere
with surrounding components as it is being
withdrawn from vehicle.
25. Remove synchromesh transmission and clutch (if so
equipped).
