Timed Models
1. Park the unit on a smooth, level surface such as a
concrete floor. Disengage the PTO, engage the parking
brake, turn off the engine, and remove the ignition key.
NOTICE
To avoid damaging belts, do NOT pry belts over pulleys.
2. Lower the mower deck to its lowest cutting position and
remove the mower deck guard.
WARNING
Spring loaded components can kick back
causing injury.
Use extreme caution when rotating the idler arm with the
breaker bar, due to the increased tension in the spring
as the idler arm is being rotated. Injury may result in
the breaker bar is prematurely release while the spring is
under tension.
3. Using a 1/2" breaker bar (A, Figure 33), place the
square end in the square hole located on the end of
the idler arm (B). Carefully rotate the breaker bar
clockwise, which will relieve the tension on the belt
exerted from the idler arm.
4. Slide the mower drive belt over the edge of the left
spindle pulley (C). Carefully release the tension on the
breaker bar.
5. Loosen the hardware that secures the center idler pulley
and the chevron belt idler pulley (D & E) to the cutter
deck and slide both pulleys towards the front of the
deck. Remove the old chevron belt. Remove the old
deck drive belt.
6. Install the deck drive belt (A, Figure 34) on the PTO
pulley, the center idler pulley (B) and the adjustable idler
pulley (C). Make sure that the V-side of the belt runs in
the grooves of the pulleys. Do not install the deck drive
belt on the left spindle pulley (D) at this time.
7. Install the new chevron belt on the right hand sprocket
and make sure that the belt is properly seated in the
chevron of the sprocket.
8. Refer to figure 35. Align the holes in the sprockets with
the spindle mounting hardware is shown. The blades
will be perpendicular to each other.
9. Install the new chevron belt on the left-hand sprocket
and make sure that the belt is properly seated in the
chevron of the sprocket.
