Taking Pictures of Dark Scenes
(Night Scene/Candlelight/Fireworks Mode)

You can choose settings appropriate for taking pictures of dark scenes,
such as nightscapes.
Use this mode when taking pictures of night views.

This mode is ideal for capturing a candlelit atmosphere.

Use this mode to take spectacular pictures of fireworks.

Press the four-way controller (3) in A mode.
The Capture Mode Palette appears.

Use the four-way controller (2345) to select A
(Night Scene), x (Candlelight) or y (Fireworks).

Press the 4 button.
The shooting mode is selected and the camera returns to capture status.

Press the shutter release button halfway.
The focus frame on the LCD monitor turns green if the subject is in focus.

Press the shutter release button fully.
The picture is taken.
• The shutter speed is slower when taking pictures of dark scenes.
• To prevent camera shake, use a tripod and the self-timer function.

• In x mode, the sensitivity is automatically adjusted to between 64
and 800 when set to [Auto]. (p.96)
• The sensitivity is set at 64, the focus mode is set to s, and the
flash mode is set to a in y mode. In addition, the shutter speed
is set at 4 sec. and the aperture is left open, and EV compensation
is not available.
• In A, x or y mode, AE metering is set to multi-segment metering.
