HOW TO USE THE GEORGE FOREMAN LEAN
MEAN FAT REDUCING GRILLING MACHINE
Preparing you new 'George Foreman Grilling Machine' for first use.
1. Remove any packaging and labels from the appliance. Wipe over the exterior
and the cooking plates with a damp cloth to remove any dust. Place the grilling
machine on a stable, level, heat-resistant surface in a well ventilated area. Plug the
power cord into a power socket, switch it On and allow to heat up for 5 minutes.
When using your Grilling Machine for the first time the unit may emit a fine smoke
vapour and scent. This is normal and is caused by the first heating of the new
elements and new cooking plates. Switch Off, allow it to cool down and give the
cooking plates another wipe over with a damp cloth.
2. Next, to 'condition' your grilling machine, apply a light coating of cooking oil to
the cooking plates and rub in with a kitchen towel or paper towel. Do not use low
fat oils as these can burn on to the cooking plates. Switch On and allow to heat up
for 5 minutes. Switch off and allow to cool down. Give the plates a final wipe over
to complete the procedure. Your new 'George Foreman Grilling Machine' is now
'conditioned' and ready for use.
3. Place your grilling machine on a stable, level, heat-resistant surface away from any
combustible materials and overhanging curtains. Plug the power cord into a power
socket, switch it On and allow it to heat up.
4. Slide the grease catching drip tray under the front of the unit.
5. With the plastic spatula, carefully place the items to be cooked on the bottom
grilling plate.
6. Close the lid. The hinge will be articulated. NB The grill plates should be roughly
parallel to avoid uneven cooking. The hinge has a floating design for even cooking,
please do not think this is a faulty hinge. Cooking times depend on type, thickness
and volume of food.
7. Allow the food to cook for the desired time. Consult the Recipe Section at the back
of this book for some suggestions. Do not leave appliance unattended during use!
8. Monitor the cooking process to ensure food is fully cooked and does not burn.
9. When finished, switch off at the power outlet and disconnect the plug from the
wall socket.
10. Use a pot holder to carefully open the lid.
11. Remove the food using the plastic spatula provided. Be sure to always use either
plastic tongs or wooden utensils so as not to scratch the non-stick surface. Never
use metal tongs, forks or knives as these can damage the coating on the grilling
plates.
12. When cooked, the drip tray may be removed and emptied. Be sure the liquid is
cooled before removing drip tray.
13. When finished, switch off at power outlet, disconnect plug from wall socket and
allow to cool before cleaning.
