This water h eater shall not b econnected toany heating systems
or component(s) usedwitha non-potable waterheating
appliance.
Allpiping c omponents connected tothisunit f orspace heating
applications shall b esuitable f orusewithpotable w ater.
Look atthetopofthewater h eater. Thecold water i nletis
marked 'COLD". Put t woorthree turns ofteflon tape around
thethreaded e ndof thethreaded-to-sweat coupling a nd
around bothendsofthe3/4"NPT threaded n ipple. Using
flexible connectors, connect thecold water p ipe tothecold
water i nlet o fthewater h eater.
Toxic chemicals, such asthose used forboiler treatment shall
notbeintroduced intothissystem.
Water s upply systems m ay, b ecause o fsuchevents a shigh
linepressure, frequent cut-offs ortheeffects o fwater h ammer
among others, h aveinstalled devices suchas pressure
reducing v alves, check valves, b ack flowpreventers, etc.to
control these types ofproblems. When these devices a renot
equipped withaninternal by-pass, andnoother m easures are
taken, thedevices c ause thewater s ystem to beclosed. A s
water i s heated, it expands ( thermal expansion) andclosed
systems donotallow fortheexpansion ofheated w ater.
The water w ithin t hewater h eater tank expands asitisheated
andincreases thepressure ofthewater system. Iftherelieving
point o fthewater h eater's temperature-pressure relief v alve is
reached, thevalvewill relieve theexcess pressure.The
temperature-pressure reliefvalveis notintended for the
constant relief o fthermal expansion. This isanunacceptable
condition andmust b ecorrected. It is recommended thatany
devices i nstalled which could create a closed system have a
by-pass a nd/or thesystem have anexpansion tanktorelieve
thepressure b uiltbythermal expansion inthewater s ystem.

Center on how to control this situation.
NOTE: To protect against untimely corrosion of hot and cold
water fittings, it is strongly recommended that dioelectric
unions or couplings be installed on this water heater when
connected to copper pipe.

NOTE: This water heater is super insulated to minimize
heat loss from the tank. Further reduction in heat loss
can be accomplished by insulating the hot water lines
from the water heater.

T & P Valve and Pipe Insumation
Remove insulation for T & P valve and pipe connections from
carton.
Figure 15 shows the typical attachment of the water piping to
the water heater. The water heater is equipped with 3/4" NPT
water connections.
NOTE: If using copper tubing, solder tubing to an adapter
before attaching the adapter to the cold water inlet
connection. Do not somder the cold water suppmy Hne directly
to the cold water inlet. It will harm the dip tube and damage
the tank.
Look at the top cover of the water heater. The water outlet is
marked "HOT". Put two or three turns of teflon tape around
the threaded end of the threadedoto-sweat coupling and
around both ends of the 3/4" NPT threaded nipple. Using
flexible connectors, connect the hot water pipe to the hot
water outlet on the water heater.

Fit pipe insulation over the incoming cold water line and the hot
water line. Make sure that the insulation is against the top
cover of the heater.
