LEDs Machine Status
Drum End Soon / Replace Drum
Replace the drum with a new one. Reset the drum counter. (See the insertion included with the drum
unit.)
We recommend you keep a Brother Original drum unit ready for installation.
The Error LED ( ) will blink 3 times at 0.5 second intervals and the Ready LED ( ) will light up. Then 3
both LEDs will turn off for 1 second.
Drum !
The corona wire needs to be cleaned. See Cleaning the corona wire on Improving the print quality.
The Error LED ( ) will blink 3 times and turn off for 1 second.
No Drum
If the toner cartridge is placed in the machine without the drum unit, put the toner cartridge into the drum
unit, and then reinstall the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly in the machine.
The Error LED ( ) will blink 3 times and turn off for 1 second.
Jam Tray / Jam Inside 1 / Jam Inside 2 / Jam Inside 3
Clear the paper jam.
See Paper jams on page 57.
If the machine does not start printing, press .
The Error LED ( ) will blink twice and turn off for 1 second.
Wrong Paper Type
The width or length of the paper in the paper tray is too small. Put paper that can be used in the paper
tray, and then press .
Acceptable paper sizes are: A4, Letter, Legal, Folio, A5, A5(Long Edge), B5 and Executive.

No Paper
Put paper in the paper tray you are using.
The Error LED ( ) will blink twice and turn off for 1 second.
Size Mismatch
The paper in the tray is not the correct size. Load the correct size of paper in the tray and set the size of
paper to the tray.
The Error LED ( ) will blink twice.
