Frequently Asked Questions (10)

  • Why is my MAAX 2007 Elite spas hot tub not heating up?

If your MAAX 2007 Elite spas hot tub is not heating up, the common causes and solutions are:

    • Water level too low: Add water to reach the fill line on the weir door.
    • Heater mode not selected: Refer to the temperature/heater functioning section in the control instructions (pages 9-15).
    • No power to heater: Check the house circuit breaker.
    • Heater not operating: Contact your dealer.

For more information, see page 40 of the manual.

  • How do I turn on my MAAX 2007 Elite spas hot tub?

To turn on your MAAX 2007 Elite spas hot tub, you should:

    1. Fill the spa through the filter hole to the water line on the weir door with tap water. Never use "softened" water in your spa.
    2. Turn power on to unit at circuit breaker or disconnect panel.
    3. Open the air controls, located on the top lip, and cycle the jets from high to low. Water should come from the therapy jets. If water flow is not established, turn off jets and see Priming Your Spa.
    4. Add chemicals.

For more information, see page 15 of the manual.

  • How do I drain my MAAX 2007 Elite spas hot tub?

To drain your MAAX 2007 Elite spas hot tub, follow these steps:

    1. Turn off all electrical power to the spa.
    2. For the external drain:
      • Locate the external drain valve at the base of the spa below the side panel.
      • Remove the outer black cap and connect a garden hose to the fitting.
      • Turn the ring on the back of the valve counter-clockwise until it stops, then pull out to open the valve. Water will begin to flow.
      • When flow stops, push in the valve, turn the ring clockwise until it stops, remove the hose, and replace the cap.
    3. For the internal drain hose(s) (if applicable, located behind the front access panel):
      • Remove the access panel screws and the access panel.
      • Locate the drain hose(s).
      • For each hose drain valve, remove the cap, attach the garden hose, and turn the valve handles 90° counter-clockwise. Water will begin to flow.
      • When all water has been evacuated, turn the valve handle clockwise until it stops. Remove the garden hose, and replace the cap.

Do NOT attempt to use the pump to drain the spa. Ensure all drains are closed and caps replaced before refilling.

  • How often should I change the water in my MAAX 2007 Elite spas hot tub?

It is advisable to drain your spa and refill it with fresh water every six to eight weeks, or more often, depending on the amount of use. This is because high concentrations of impurities from water evaporation, body oils, perfumes, and other contaminants may accumulate and cannot be filtered out.

  • How often should I clean the filters in my MAAX 2007 Elite spas hot tub?

The filter in your MAAX 2007 Elite spas hot tub should be inspected/cleaned monthly during normal use, and more often when spa use is heavy. The filter cartridge itself should be cleaned at least once every 90 days. Replacing the filter cartridge annually is recommended to maintain optimum performance.

For more information, see pages 8 and 36 of the manual.

  • What chemicals are recommended for maintaining the water in a MAAX 2007 Elite spas hot tub?

For maintaining the water in your MAAX 2007 Elite spas hot tub, you will need:

    • Sanitizers: Common spa sanitizers or oxidizing agents include bromine, chlorine, and ozone. It is important to maintain a residual of sanitizer in your water. For spas using ozone, a residual of 3.0–5.0 ppm of chlorine or bromine is recommended.
    • pH balancing chemicals: To maintain proper pH, which is important for sanitizer effectiveness and user comfort. Recommended pH levels are 7.2-7.6 (ideal 7.4-7.6). Do not use muriatic acid to balance pH.
    • Specialty Chemicals: While ozone can reduce the usage of specialty chemicals, it is not a substitute. These chemicals should continue to be monitored, especially during heavy usage or when changing/replenishing water. If your source water has a high metal or mineral content, a specialty chemical should be used to avoid staining or accumulation of deposits.

It is recommended to purchase a chemical start-up kit and additional chemicals from your dealer. Tests should be done daily with your test kit to keep proper levels.

For more information, see page 35 of the manual.

  • How do I properly operate the jets and controls on my MAAX 2007 Elite spas hot tub?

The operation of jets and controls depends on your specific control system (Powerworks™ 160, 460, or 760 Series), but generally involves:

    • Jets: All full-sized jets are adjustable from fully open to closed. You can rotate the nozzle to target sore muscle areas. It is important to NEVER SHUT ALL FULL SIZED JETS OFF AT ONE TIME.
      • To activate the jets, touch the corresponding "Jets" pad (e.g., "Jets 1" or "Jets 2" for 160 series, "JETS 1", "JETS 2", "JETS 3" for 760 series). The sequence typically cycles through low speed, high speed, and off with successive touches.
    • Air Controls: The intensity of the jet action can be controlled by altering the amount of air injected with water. Your spa has five air controls located on the lip of the spa. Each control activates air to specific jets.
      • Turn the control counter-clockwise to turn the air off and clockwise to turn air on.
      • Air controls should be closed during heating cycles for maximum energy efficiency.
    • Light: Touch the "Light" pad to turn the internal spa light on or off. The light will automatically turn off after 1 hour of operation.

Some models may also have a Turbo Air Boost or Air Massage system, activated by a "BLOWER" button, which automatically shuts off after 15 minutes.

    For more information, see pages 12, 15, 17, 21, 23, 27 and 32 of the manual.

  • How do I winterize my MAAX 2007 Elite spas hot tub?

If you do not intend to use your spa during the winter months and there is a danger of freezing, follow these steps to winterize your spa:

    1. Turn off all electrical power to the spa.
    2. Drain the spa and hoses of all water using the directions for Draining Your Spa (page 24). Open all unions and remove drain plugs from the bottom of the pumps. If you cannot draw off all of the water, add Recreational Vehicle antifreeze (inhibitor Propylene Glycol) to the remaining water through the bottom of the skimmer and jets.
    3. The filter should be drained, and the cartridge removed and cleaned.
    4. Check to see that there is no water in the heater element chamber.
    5. Clean your spa as directed in the Spa Surface Care and Cleaning section.
    6. Cover your spa with a water-shedding, impenetrable cover.
    7. For further information on blowing out plumbing lines and winterizing procedures, contact your local dealer.

For more information, see page 37 of the manual.
