Installing the TCP/IP
protocol in Windows 95/98
Important:
Have the PC's Windows CD-ROM close at hand, in case Windows requires files from it during
this procedure.
1. Click on Start, choose Settings, then choose Control Panel.
2. Double click on the Network Icon. The Network dialog box appears. Select its Configuration tab.
3. Click the Add button.
4. Double-click on Protocol.
5. Highlight Microsoft under the list of Manufacturers.
6. Find and double-click TCP/IP in the list to the right.
7. After a few seconds, the main Network window will appear. The TCP/IP Protocol should now
be listed.
8. Click OK. Windows may ask for the original Windows installation files. Supply them as needed.
9. Windows will ask you to restart the PC. Click Yes.
Important:
Windows NT and Windows 2000 require Administrator rights to install the TCP/IP protocol. We
recommend that a Windows NT/2000-qualified technician perform this task on a PC running
either Windows NT or Windows 2000.
