5. ENGLISH INSTRUCTIONS

1. Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the KEF PSW3500 powered
subwoofer. We are confident that your PSW3500 will
provide reliable, high performance sound for many
years to come.
The PSW3500 subwoofer offers high-end performance
in both music and home cinema installations.
For ease of use and installation the subwoofer is
equipped with an IR remote control, allowing for easy
adjustment of level, cut off frequency and phase from
your listening position. An IR extension is included for
use if the subwoofer is obscured from view.
Please read this manual fully before installing your
powered subwoofer.
2. Unpacking
Follow the unpacking procedure shown in Fig.1 p4.
Make sure the feet are correctly fitted before the
subwoofer is lifted into position.
3. Controls and sockets

1. Voltage selector
Please ensure the correct voltage is selected for the
country of use.
2. Mains power on/off switch
Please ensure all connections are made before the
appliance is turned on.

5. Level control
Used to set the level of the subwoofer relative to the
main speakers output.
6. IR extension input
Used to add the IR extension if the subwoofer is
obscured from view
7. Auto/manual switch
With the auto position selected the subwoofer will
automatically switch to standby mode if there is no
input signal detected for greater than 160 minutes.
The subwoofer is automatically taken out of standby
when an input signal is detected. With the manual
position selected the subwoofer standby function is
controlled via the remote hand set.
8. Low-Pass/LFE (Low Frequency Effects) switch
Selecting LFE bypasses the low-pass filter and sets
the frequency response flat to 250Hz as required for
use with a surround sound processor in a home
theatre set-up.

9. Variable Low-pass filter roll off rate
Selects the roll off rate of the subwoofer low-pass
filter at either 12dB per octave (2nd order) or 24dB
per octave (4th order).
10.Music/cinema switch
Used for added impact when watching movies.
11. Ground Lift Switch
Set this to 'lift' if earth loop hum is heard
12. Line Level High Pass Outputs
Used for filtering the input to small loudspeakers in
a stereo set-up.
13. Line Level Inputs
Used to connect the subwoofer to the line level
signal from a preamplifier or the dedicated LFE
output from a surround sound processor.

1. Standby/on button.
Used to put the subwoofer in standby or to bring it
out of standby. (see Auto/Manual switch).
2. Level control
Used to set the output level of the subwoofer relative
to the main speakers.
3. Crossover frequency control
Used to adjust the internal low-pass crossover filter
of the subwoofer.
4. Phase control
Used to adjust the acoustic phase of the subwoofer
relative to the main speakers.
4. Positioning
As the sub-bass (low frequency) sound produced by the
subwoofer is close to omni-directional positioning is less
critical than with full range conventional speakers.
However, we recommend placement away from the
corners of the room and not too close to the listener.
As all rooms are different it is best to experiment with
the location of the subwoofer until you are happy
with the sound.
5. Set-up and fine tuning
Make sure all signal connections are made before the
subwoofer is turned on.
5.1 Movie set-up
With KHT speakers
Follow the connection diagram in Fig. 5 page 8
Upon first power-up the phase control is set to zero
