Protection Principle of SRS Airbag
If an impact results in a forward
deceleration beyond the designed
threshold level , the system triggers
the airbag inflators. At this time a
chemical reaction in the inflators very
quickly fills the airbags with non–toxic
gas to help restrain the froward motion
of the occupants. The front airbags
then quickly deflate, so that there is
no obstruction of the driver's vision
and it should be necessary to continue
driving. When the airbags inflate, it is
normal to notice a smoke-like, powdery
residue or smell the burnt propellant.
They produce a loud noise and release
some smoke and residue along with
non–toxic gas. This does not indicate a
fire. This smoke may remain inside the
vehicle for some time, and may cause
some minor irritation to the eyes, skin
or breathing. Be sure to wash off any

residue as soon as possible to prevent
any potential skin irritation with soap
and water. You shall exit the vehicle
safely immediately if available.
While the system can reduce serious
injuries, it may also cause minor
abrasions, swelling or temporary
hearing loss. Because airbags must
inflate rapidly and with considerable
force, there is the risk of death or
serious injuries such as fractures,
facial and eye injuries or internal
injuries, particularly to occupants who
are not properly restrained or are other
out of position at the time of airbag
deployment. Thus, it is extremely
important that occupants be properly
restrained as far away from the airbag
cover as possible while maintaining
vehicle control.

after deployment, so do not touch!
The airbags inflate only once. The
windshield may be damaged by the
inflating airbag.
WARNING
!
Sitting too close to a front airbag
can result in serious injury or death
if the front airbags inflate.
BYD strongly recommends that:
y The driver sit as far back as
possible from the steering wheel
while still maintaining control of
the vehicle.
y T h e f r o n t p a s s e n g e r s i t a s
far back as possible from the
dashboard.
y All vehicle occupants be properly
restrained using the available
seat belts.
