Chapter 4 When Occurrence of Fault Is
If the Built-in DVD-RAM drive operates improperly and the occurrence of a fault is
suspected, see the troubleshooting chart shown in this chapter to find the cause of the fault.
Do not disassemble, repair, or alter the Built-in DVD-RAM drive.
Never attempt to disassemble, repair, or alter the Built-in DVD-RAM drive on any
occasion other than described in this User's Guide or the manual of the computer in
which the product is installed if you are not a maintenance engineer. Failure to follow this
instruction may cause an electric shock or a fire as well as malfunctions of the product.

Action
Turn on the power of the computer. (Then the
POWER lamp goes on.)
Connect a power cable coming from the power unit in
the computer to the Built-in DVD-RAM drive.
Connect the Built-in DVD-RAM drive and the CD-
ROM drive to the IDE connector on the motherboard.
For the connection, use the interface cable coming
with the Built-in DVD-RAM drive.
Set the device ID jumper on the Built-in DVD-RAM
drive correctly. Leave the settings at the shipment for
the switches other than that used to configure the ID.
Put the disk on the tray correctly.
Insert the disk in the proper orientation.
Eject the disk being set and then set the proper disk.
Connect the Built-in DVD-RAM drive and the CD-
ROM drive to the IDE connector on the motherboard.
For the connection, use the interface cable coming
with the Built-in DVD-RAM drive.
Replace the interface cable. Use the interface cable
coming with the Built-in DVD-RAM drive.
Set the device ID jumper on the Built-in DVD-RAM
drive correctly. Leave the settings at the shipment for
the switches other than that used to configure the ID.
Install the correct device drivers. Depending on the
operating system and the computer, the order of
loading the device drivers may be restricted. Refer to
the manual of each device driver.
