    Product description The IBM 12x8x32 CD-RW drive can write and read CD-RW and CD-Recordable (CD-R) discs, and can read mass-produced stamped CDs. CDs created with this drive are compatible with Multi-Read (MR) CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives that can read CD-RW discs and other media, and with older non-MR CD-ROM drives that can read only CD-R and CD-ROM discs.

    Installing the Drive To install the drive into your computer, use the following steps. Step 1. Opening the computer To open your computer, do the following: 1. Turn off the computer and all attached devices. 2. Unplug the power cords for the computer and all attached devices. 3.
  • Page 15 Some non-IBM computers support the cable-select setting, where the position of the device on the cable determines whether a device is master or slave. See the documentation that comes with your computer to determine if your system supports this setting.
  • Page 16 with this drive. Using the wrong size screws might damage the drive. Thread the screws in loosely to check their position. Usually two screws are used on each side. 3. Check to make sure the alignment is correct, and then tighten the screws to secure the drive.

Insert the Easy CD Creator and DirectCD disc into your CD-RW drive. 2. If the Adaptec Easy CD Creator Installation window opens, follow the onscreen instructions.

    CD Creator is used to copy CDs, create new data CDs, and produce new audio CDs that can be read by standard CD-RO drives and CD players. DirectCD is used to make file archives and data CDs that can be altered many times.
  • Page 20 Attention: Wiping a CD using a circular motion might cause loss of data. v Handle the CD by the edges or by the center hole. Do not touch the surface of the CD. v To remove dust or fingerprints, wipe the CD from the center to the edge with a soft, lint-free cloth.

    Loading a CD To load a CD into a horizontally mounted CD-RW drive, do the following: 1. Press the Eject/Load button. The tray slides out of the drive. 2. Insert the CD into the loading tray. 3. Close the loading tray by pressing the Eject/Load button, or by gently pushing the tray in.

    1. Press the Eject/Load button. 2. Look at the illustrations and compare them to your loading tray. v If your loading tray looks like the left illustration, insert the CD carefully so that the edges of the CD are underneath the tabs on the loading tray. These plastic tabs cover the edges of the CD and hold it in place.

    1. Insert a blank disc. The DirectCD Wizard Welcome window opens. 2. Click Next twice. The Format Disc window opens. Attention: Formatting completes in about 30 minutes for standard and about 15 minutes for high speed media.The DirectCD program configures the disc to receive data, verifies the integrity of the disc surface, and writes DirectCD file system structures to the disc.

  • Page 76 Avvertenza: Non forzare l’apertura del vassoio; non inserire oggetti esterni nel vassoio del CD. Se il vassoio non si apre quando viene premuto il pulsante Carica/Espelli, consultare la sezione “Espulsione manuale di un CD”. Per caricare un CD in un’unità CD-RW situata verticalmente, seguire la procedura riportata di seguito.
