If you subscribe to Caller ID service, the telephone company sends the caller’s name, telephone number, the date, and the time of the call between the first and second rings.

Trilingual Operation — lets you set the module to display special messages in English, French, or Spanish.

However, each module (and each device, such as a telephone or answering machine) that you connect to the telephone line draws power from the telephone line.

43-963.fm Page 9 Monday, August 16, 1999 3:43 PM Note: You must not connect the module to: • Coin-operated systems • Party-line systems • Most electronic key telephone systems In the unlikely event that your module causes problems on the telephone line, the telephone company can disconnect your service.

• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna • Increase the distance between the module and the radio or TV • Use outlets on different electrical circuits for the module and the radio or TV Consult your local Radio Shack store if the problem continues.
The module is powered by one 9-volt battery. For the longest operation, we rec- ommend you use an alkaline battery (Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-553). Even if you use the supplied AC adapter, install a battery to keep the information in the mod- ule’s memory during power failures.

The module connects to the phone line and your phone using two modular tele- phone-line connectors. If your phone line does not have this type of connector, you can get the necessary adapters at your local Radio Shack store. Or, you can have the telephone company update your telephone wiring.
43-963.fm Page 16 Monday, August 16, 1999 3:43 PM CONNECTING TO A SINGLE LINE PHONE Follow these steps to connect the module to a single phone line. 1. Unplug the phone’s cord from the phone jack and plug this cord into either of the module’s telephone line connectors.
43-963.fm Page 17 Monday, August 16, 1999 3:43 PM CONNECTING TO A TWO-LINE PHONE To record information about calls received on a two-line phone, you can connect two modules using a triplex adapter (Cat. No. 279-402). The module only records information about calls received on the line to which it is connected.

Unplug the answering machine’s cord from the phone line jack and plug this cord into either of the module’s telephone line connectors. 2. Plug one end of the supplied phone cord into the module’s other telephone line connector, then plug the other end of the cord into the phone line jack.

Even other adapters that have the same ratings as the recommended adapter might not work properly. Note: You must connect the module to AC power using the supplied AC adapter for nightlighting to work.
43-963.fm Page 21 Monday, August 16, 1999 3:43 PM MOUNTING THE MODULE You can place the module directly on a desk, table, or shelf. Or, you can follow these steps to mount the module on a wall. 1. Drill two holes, inch diameter and 2 inches apart into the wall.

43-963.fm Page 24 Monday, August 16, 1999 3:43 PM ADJUSTING THE DISPLAY CONTRAST Follow these steps to adjust the display’s contrast for the best visibility. 1. Press and hold down DELETE 2. While holding down DELETE , within 6 seconds repeatedly press to decrease the contrast or to increase the contrast.

The module also auto- matically displays all received caller ID information for every incoming call, in- cluding the caller’s telephone number and the call’s time and date. In some areas, the caller’s name is also sent.

43-963.fm Page 34 Monday, August 16, 1999 3:43 PM Handle the module gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage the circuit boards and can cause the module to work improperly. Wipe the module with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it look- ing new.
43-963.fm Page 35 Monday, August 16, 1999 3:43 PM LIGHTNING This system has built-in protection circuits to reduce the risk of damage from surges in phone and power line current. These protection circuits meet or exceed the FCC requirements. However, lightning striking the phone or power lines can damage the system.
