CONGRATULATIONS ON SELECTING EPISODE
Episode
is one of the most highly regarded brands in custom electronics available today.
®
We appreciate your business and we stand committed to providing our customers with the highest
degree of quality and service in the industry.
The Episode ESS-6 is a high quality and convenient speaker selector that allows you to connect up to
six pairs of speakers to a receiver or amplifier and play any pair, any combination of pairs or all pairs at the same
time. Using the Episode ESS-6 ensures that you will not overload your amplifier, as protection circuitry is built in.
FEATURES
The illustrations below show the features of the Episode ESS-6 speaker selector. Using the supplied labels, you may
place one above the switch for each room in which speakers will be used. The protection switch should be enabled
whenever more than one pair of speakers is used together.

INSTALLATION
The removable connectors allow you to terminate speaker wire easily to the speaker switcher.
Refer to the wiring diagram on the next page.
• Determine the best location for the Episode ESS-6 speaker selector.
• Turn power to "OFF" on all equipment before proceeding.
• Strip back 1/4" of insulation from each wire that is to be connected to the connector. Twist the exposed
conductors tightly so that there are no stray strands.
• To make connecting wires to the speaker selector quick and easy, your Episode speaker selector uses
connectors that allow wire connection without the need for additional tools such as screwdrivers. Simply
flip the levers on each connector up before inserting the appropriate wire. Insert the wires, then snap the
levers down. The spring-loaded mechanism will hold the wires in place.
• Connect the wires going into each speaker to the connectors, making sure to maintain proper polarity.

AMP PROTECTION
The AMP PROTECTION switch activates the impedance correction circuitry and will send a safe operating load
to the amplifier when playing multiple speaker pairs. Many manufacturers do not recommend connecting more
than 2 pairs of speakers without using impedance correction. The use of impedance matching volume controls
(EVC-100R-WHLA) will aid in sending safe impedance to your amplifier. The AMP PROTECTION switch will
balance the impedance to 4 ohms. Use the following chart as a guide for setting the AMP PROTECTION
button. The Amp protection switch is "ON" when the button is depressed.
SPEAKERS USED
1 pair of 4 ohm speakers
2 or more pairs of 4 ohm speakers
Any combination of 4 and 8 ohm speakers
1 or 2 pair of 8 ohm speakers
3 or more pairs of 8 ohm speakers
The AMP PROTECTION switch should be enabled whenever more than one pair of speakers
is used at the same time, unless impedance matching volume controls (such as Episode EVC-100R or
EVC-100S) are used in each zone and has the proper impedance matching multiplier selected.
(Refer to EVC-100R or EVC-100S manual for more information.)
CAUTION:
1. Confirm your amp will handle 4 ohms before using the AMP PROTECTION.
2. If your amplifier has a "A" and "B" speaker output, connect the ES-6-BLK to the "A" output only.
Using the "B" will cause the amplifier to drive an unusually low impedance load.
• Once all wires have been inserted and locked in to the connectors, visually inspect each of your
connections to ensure that there are no stray strands that might short and that there is not an
excessive amount of exposed wire outside of the connector. Also be sure that the connector is
tightened down on bare wire and
not insulation. Install the connector
back into the speaker selector.
The connectors are 'keyed,' so that they
can only be inserted the correct way.
Repeat for each speaker pair required.
• Turn power 'ON' for all associated
equipment and test to make sure
it is functioning properly.
