MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION
Engine Oil
Oil and Filter Change (RANGER 4X4, 6X6)
CAUTION
Hot oil can cause serious burns. Do not allow hot oil to come into
contact with skin.
1. Run the engine two to three minutes
until warm. Stop the engine.
2. Clean the area around the drain
plug (B) at the bottom of the oil
tank.
3. Place a drain pan beneath the oil
tank and remove the drain plug.
Allow the oil to drain
completely.
4. Replace the sealing washer (A)
on the drain plug.
The sealing surfaces on the drain plug and oil tank should be
NOTE:
clean and free of burrs, nicks or scratches.
5. Reinstall the drain plug and torque to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
6. Loosen the clamp (D) and remove the oil hose from the screen
fitting (C) on the bottom of the oil tank.
7. Remove the screen fitting and clean the screen thoroughly.
8. Apply Loctitet 565 Thread Sealant to the clean and oil-free
threads of the fitting.
9. Reinstall the screen fitting and tighten to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
10. Reinstall the oil hose on the fitting and reinstall the clamp.
11. Place shop towels beneath the
oil filter (1). Using an oil filter
wrench, turn the filter
counterclockwise to remove.
12. Using a clean dry cloth, clean
the filter sealing surface on the
crankcase.
13. Check to make sure the o-ring is
in good condition. Lubricate the
o-ring on the new filter with a
film of engine oil.
