Cheetah 9LP FC Product Manual, Rev. C Of the 1,024 Kbytes physical buffer space in the drive, 967.5 Kbytes can be used as a cache. The cache can be divided into logical segments from which data is read and to which data is written. The drive keeps track of the logical block addresses of the data stored in each segment of the cache.
  • Page 22 Cheetah 9LP FC Product Manual, Rev. C stored in the cache from a previous read or write command. If there are, the respective cache segments are cleared. The new data is cached for subsequent read commands. If a 10-byte CDB Write command (2Ah) is issued with the data page out (DPO) bit set to 1, no write data is cached, but the cache segments are still checked and cleared, if need be, for any logical blocks that are being written.

Cheetah 9LP FC Product Manual, Rev. C S.M.A.R.T. S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym for Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology. This technology is intended to recognize conditions that indicate imminent drive failure and is designed to provide sufficient warning of a failure to allow you to back up the data before an actual failure occurs. Note.

  • Page 30: Conducted Noise Immunity

Cheetah 9LP FC Product Manual, Rev. C 6.2.1 Conducted noise immunity Noise is specified as a periodic and random distribution of frequencies covering a band from DC to 10 MHz. Maximum allowed noise values given below are peak-to-peak measurements and apply at the drive power connector.
  • Page 31: Environmental Limits

Non-operating temperature should remain between –40°F to 158°F (–40°C to 70°C) package ambient with a maximum gradient of 36°F (20°C) per hour. This assumes that the drive is packaged in the shipping con- tainer designed by Seagate. 6.4.2 Relative humidity The values below assume that no condensation on the drive occurs.
  • Page 32: Air Cleanliness

Disc drives shipped as loose load (not palletized) general freight will be packaged to withstand drops from heights as defined in the table below. For additional details, refer to Seagate specifications 30190-001 (under 100 lbs/45 kg) or 30191-001 (over 100 lbs/45 kg).
  • Page 33: Electromagnetic Susceptibility

Sound power during idle mode is 4.4 bels typical when measured to ISO 7779 specification. There will not be any discrete tones more than 10 dB above the masking noise on typical drives when measured according to Seagate specification 30553-001. There will not be any tones more than 24 dB above the masking noise on any drive.
  • Page 35: Defect And Error Management

Cheetah 9LP FC Product Manual, Rev. C Defect and error management The drive, as delivered, complies with this product manual. The read error rates and specified storage capaci- ties are not dependent upon use of defect management routines by the host (initiator). Defect and error management in the SCSI protocol involves the drive internal defect/error management and FC-AL system error considerations (errors in communications between the initiator and the drive).
