xStack Storage DSN-3200 & DSN-3400
V1.4.0 build 27 Release Notes
2.2 Other fixed Included in Release
The following items have been included in the V1.4.0 release based on issues found in the field and or as
part of qualification testing. As identified, D-Link continues to work towards the highest quality and will
implement fixes, updates and changes to insure proper capability that are critical to our customers.
• Fix for issue with LBA out of range errors on a volume that is greater than 4TB.
• Issue was found that had the potential for data corruption during a parity rebuild. In a very rare condition
created in our QA testing, the host I/O was in conflict with the I/O rebuild that begin to be generated in the
xStack Storage.
On a heavily stressed system, using multiple connections configured to use immediate data, the potential
existed for data corruption when one of the connections entered into error recovery.
There was a bug found that allowed inconsistency in the metadata that claimed the same extent on the
device. The inconsistency is a result of the fact that when a metadata update for a Create Volume request
fails, the database elements allocated to the volume are not freed and the metadata records written are not
erased. This issue was corrected by preventing the subsequent Create Volume occurring.
2.3 Known Problems and Limitations
The following items are known problems and limitations that are part of the V1.4.0 release. These issues
will be placed into categories to identify frequency and or potential an issue may be encountered.
• Enclosure Services with the Vitesse Controller found in the DSN-3200/3400: The problem occurs with
the Power Supply Audible Alarm and the Fault of a Fan. If redundant power is lost, there is no
"Audible" alarm on the Power Supply assembly, but there is an event that occurs and email notification
will be generated. The second issue; If two of the three fans are removed, the event log is identified, but the
Fault/Ready LED does not turn red and a email notification is not initiated. The fans will increase in speed
to compensate for loss of fan and the event log notified, but two of the three notifications are not
recognized.
• Upgrading from previous firmware versions: The DSN-3200/3400 unit will lose any users created under
previous versions of firmware. The only user present will be the default "admin" account with a password
of "admin" upon booting of the unit under the 1.4.0 firmware. Be sure to change the admin password to
protect against security breeches. Note: All volumes, target LUNs, ports will be retained that were created
under previous firmware.
2.4 Volumes

2.4.1 Data Reliability

All volume organizations are supported; all combinations of those organizations are supported, reduced
volumes are supported.
2.4.2 Information
• Drive Insertion and Rebuild Behavior: Asynchronous Drive Insertions are handled as follows:
- If the drive has no metadata, it will be initialized and placed in the Available Pool.
- If the drive has metadata, and that metadata indicates that the drive had been in the Available
Pool when last installed in a DSN-3200/3400, then the drive will be returned to the Available Pool.
- If the drive has any other metadata, it will be placed in the Unusable Collection. From there, the
Administrator can initialize the drive, which will initialize the drive and move it to the Available Pool.
- Whenever a Volume is reduced (when there is insufficient disk space available to start a rebuild), and a
new drive appears in the Available Pool, a Rebuild will begin immediately. The Rebuild status will be:
Running if resources are immediately available, or pending if either another Rebuild is Running targeting
the same drive or too many tasks are currently in process.
