INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSPECTING AND REPLACING
THE TIMING BELT
WES1ERBEKE requires as normal maintenance, replacing
the timing belt after 1000 engine operating hours. The timing
belt should always be replaced during an engine overhaul.
The adjustments, inspection, and replacement procedures
may be performed without removing the generator from the
boat
THE TIMING BELT PART NUMBER IS #043036
Timing Belt Removal
1.
Turn the crankshaft clockwise to align the timing mark on
the camshaft sprocket and timing belt rear cover.
NOTE:
Always tum the crankshaft clockwise.

2. Remove the plug on the left surface of the cylinder block
and insert a rod with a diameter of 0.31 in (8 mm) to lock
the counterbalance shaft.
NOTE:
Be sure to use an inserting rod with a diameter of
0.31 in
(8
mm).

3. Loosen the timing belt tensioner nut.
4. Move the timing belt tensioner toward the water pump,
and temporarily tighten the nut to hold the tensioner in
that position.
