Note: Place the heat sink on its side so that the thermal grease on the bottom of it does not get in
contact with anything.
4. Remove the system fan from the computer. See "Replacing the system fan" on page 117.
5. Remove the hard disk drive bracket from the computer. See "Replacing the hard disk drive bracket" on
page 107.
6. Remove the WiFi card module if your computer has one. See "Replacing the WiFi card module" on
page 112.
7. Remove all memory modules that are currently installed. See "Installing or replacing a memory module"
on page 79.
8. Carefully take note of the locations of all cable connections on the system board and disconnect all
the cables. See "Locating parts on the system board" on page 72.
9. Remove the five screws that secure the system board to the chassis by following the sequence shown
in the following illustration.

10. Carefully slide the system board so that it can be released from the mounting studs that secure the
system board in place.
11. Carefully pivot the failing system board upward to remove it out of the chassis.
