17. TROUBLESHOOTING
Cause
Diesel fuel is not flowing or is not
flowing sufficiently to the engine.
Air is trapped in the fuel system.
Water contamination in the fuel
system.
In cold weather, the engine oil viscosity
is excessively high, which causes
greater resistance. As a result, the
engine speed is lower than normal.
The power of the battery is too low and
the starter fails to accelerate to a
speed sufficient to start the engine.
Stale diesel fuel (owing to prolonged
storage).
Contaminated diesel fuel.
Clogged air cleaner.
The fuel shut-off valve is not in the fully
OPEN position.
No diesel fuel.
The fuel shut-off valve is not in the
OPEN position.
Poor diesel fuel quality.
Too much engine oil.
Clogged air filter.
Faulty or defective injection nozzle.
Poor diesel fuel quality.
Remedy
• Check that there is sufficient fuel in the
fuel tank. Refuel as necessary.
• Check that the fuel filter is not clogged.
Replace the clogged filter.
• Check the fuel line for looseness.
Retighten any loose connections.
• Bleed air from the fuel system.
• Remove water from the fuel tank, fuel lines
and fuel filter (replace filter as necessary).
Refill the fuel tank with diesel fuel.
• Use a less viscous engine oil; Be sure to
change to a more viscous engine oil in
summer. (Consult your local Cub Cadet
Yanmar dealer for details.)
• Clean the battery posts and terminals,
then measure the voltage of the battery. If
the voltage is 11 V or lower, replace the
battery with a new one.
• During cold weather, it is recommended to
remove the engine from the tractor and
store it indoors. Recharge the battery (as
necessary) before installing it in the
tractor.
• Replace the diesel fuel.
