INTRODUCTION
SPECIFICATIONS
Congratulations on your purchase of an APEX ADP1 Passive Direct Box. This sturdy and dependable
Attenuation Switch,
unit allows the connection of the outputs of electronic musical instruments (or other audio sources) to
three-position
the balanced inputs of mixer consoles. Alternatively, the APEX ADP allows connection of a music
0dB, -20dB, -40dB
source to an instrument amplifier while simultaneously patching it to a mixer via the ADP1 D.I. Box.

1. Electric Guitar/Bass Pick-Up Signals
The high impedance signal from a guitar or bass pick-up is translated by the APEX
ADP1 into a low impedance balanced signal required by mixing consoles.
• Suggested attenuation setting (1): 0dB
2. Keyboards - Line Level Signals
The APEX AD1P automatically balances and matches the line level outputs of modern electronic key-
boards. If you are using a multiple keyboard setup, and your keyboards are all plugged into a single
instrument amplifier, the APEX ADP1 can be used to replace individual direct boxes. Simply send the
output of the instrument amplifier to the APEX ADP1, then to the console (instead of using a separate
direct box for each keyboard).
• Suggested attenuation setting (1): -20dB (line level) or -40dB (amp level)
3. DJ Console Output Signals
DJ Mixers often supply only an unbalanced -10dB signal. The APEX ADP1 converts this signal to a bal-
anced line level before it reaches the console, while providing a convenient method of connector transi-
tion with long cable run capability
• Suggested attenuation setting (1): 0dB or -20dB
4. Speaker Level Signals
The ADP's capability of accepting speaker level input from a power amplifier's output allows post-ampli-
fier, post EQ/effects signals to be fed directly to the console. In this manner a particular effect or amplifi-
er sound can be sent directly to the mix.
• Suggested attenuation setting (1): -40dB

• 0dB for electric guitar/bass pickups
• -20dB for line level signals, such as CD-Players and keyboards
• -40dB for speaker feeds
