INTRODUCTION
SPECIFICATIONS
Congratulations on your purchase of an APEX ADP2 Passive Direct Box. This sturdy and dependable
Attenuation Switch,
three-position
unit allows you to connect the output of an electronic musical instrument or other audio source to the
balanced input on a mixer. Alternatively, the APEX ADP2 allows connection of an audio source to an
0dB, -20dB, -40dB
instrument amplifier while simultaneously patching it to a channel on a mixer. It even gives you the
Frequency Range
ability to connect the speaker output of an instrument amplifier directly to the input of a mixer - espe-
15Hz-30kHz +/- 0dB
cially desirable in the case of a tube guitar amp (speakers must also be connected, see below).
Inputs
50 kOhm ¼" TRS*

APPLICATIONS
Sleeve = (-) Ground.
1. Electric Guitar/Bass Pick-Up Signals
The high impedance signal from a guitar or bass pick-up is translated by the APEX ADP2 into a low
impedance balanced signal required by mixing consoles.
• Suggested attenuation setting (1): 0dB
2. Keyboards - Line Level Signals
The APEXADP2 automatically balances and matches the line level outputs of modern electronic key-
boards. If you are using a multiple keyboard setup with your keyboards plugged into an instrument
amplifier, simply connect the line output of the instrument amplifier to the APEXADP2 with an unbal-
anced patch cable, then use a balanced patch cable to go to a channel on the mixer.
• Suggested attenuation setting (1): -20dB (line level) or -40dB (amp level)
3. DJ Console Output Signals
DJ Mixers often supply only an unbalanced -10dB signal. The APEX ADP21 converts this signal to a
balanced line level before it reaches the house console, while providing a convenient method of con-
nector transition with long cable run capability.
• Suggested attenuation setting (1): 0dB or -20dB
4. Speaker Level Signals
The ADP2's capability of accepting speaker level input from an amplifier's output allows post-amplifi-
er, post EQ/effects signals to be fed directly to the console. This is particularly desirable where a
tube guitar amp is concerned. CAUTION; If you are connecting a "tube" amplifier's speaker output
this way, BE SURE A SPEAKER LOAD IS ALSO CONNECTED. Tube amps must see a load
impedance that falls within their design parameters. Because it has a very high input impedance,
connecting the ADP2 in parallel with a speaker load will not alter the overall speaker load impedance
encountered by the amplifier.
• Suggested attenuation setting (1): -40dB
