CONTROL ISSUES
There are two basic problems, which prevent proper operation of the VS-6 system. In the order
of probability the problems are as follows:
PROBLEM:
1. IR Control Issues
IR control of the VS-6 can include an IR flasher placed on the IR Sensor Input window on
the front panel or a direct connection to the rear panel IR Sensor Input. If the remote control
programmed to operate the VS-6 causes improper operation, the symptom could include IR
flooding, no source, or the wrong source to be selected.
SOLUTION:
• Check that the proper codes are programmed into the controlling remote
• Don't place the flasher directly on the front panel IR Sensor Window; place it
slightly off center of the Sensor window
• Check that the Unit Dipswitches are correctly set
• Check for ambient light or plasma TV flooding the front panel sensor
PROBLEM:
2. RS-232 Control Issues
Proper control of the Niles VS-6 via RS-232 is based on the automation system being
connected properly and that automation system being programmed correctly. If either of
these two things is done incorrectly the symptoms could be non-operation, no source, or
the wrong source selected.
SOLUTIONS:
• Check that the proper codes are programmed into the controlling
automation system
• Verify RS-232 wiring; pin out connection and wire integrity
• Check that the Unit Dipswitches are correctly set
• Check for ambient light or plasma TV flooding the front panel sensor
