    You can choose between traditional component video output cables, or balanced video signals over CAT-5 cabling. The VS-6 can be used as a stand-alone video switcher, or as part of a complete distributed audio/video solution with compatible Niles MultiZone audio systems.

    TV/Monitor 1 is connected to a Niles C5-HDDAWM, the wall-mount version of the C5-HDDA. 4. Shown are two control options for the VS-6. For IR control, a Niles WS110R wall-mount IR sensor is connected to a Niles MSU140 Main System Unit and a Niles 3.5mm to 3.5mm accessory cable (FG00933) is connected from one of the four Flasher Output connections of the MSU140 to the IR Input connection of the VS-6.
  • Page 10 Niles Network MultiZone Receiver. 2. Balanced Video Output for Zone 5 of the VS-6 is sent to its respective room using cabling through the wall. The local room control CAT-5 cable is for connection to, and communication with, the optionally supplied IRG (Infrared Gateway FG01426).

    12V status signal from a Niles triggering accessory. The dia- gram below shows a Niles CS12V (FG01173) programmed to “see” the extra current draw the TV has when it is powered on. When the power cord for the TV is connected to the current sensing outlet on the CS12V, the CS12V sees the additional current draw and sends out a 12V trigger via a 3.5mm to 3.5mm triggering accessory cable (FG00933) to the IRG’s 3-30V AC/DC Sync Port.
  • Page 12 VS-6 Unit ID (Unit 1-4), dipswitch 3 is used to set the RS-232 communication baud rate for either 9,600 (On) or 19,200 (Off) and dipswitch 4 is used to set the VS-6 for either Network control (On) or RS-232 control (Off).

    PROGRAMMING The Niles VS-6 Component Video Switcher uses very simple logic for control: “Choose an output, choose a source.” Programming is based on control options detailed below. CONTROL OPTION #1: Niles Network MultiZone Receivers Integration with Niles Network MultiZone Receivers offers complete flexibility of set-up and seamless operation by utilizing local room control products such as the Niles IRG Infrared Gateway and remote user keypads.
  • Page 14 Please refer to Figure 8 for VS-6 dipswitch settings. Listed in the appendix are the IR codes in a hex IR code format that can be typed into the programming software for many of the popular programmable remote controls.

    Troubleshooting the VS-6 Component Video switcher can be broken down into two main areas: 1) Hardware Issues 2) Control Issues HARDWARE ISSUES There are three basic problems that prevent proper operation of the VS-6 system. In the order of probability the problems are as follows: PROBLEM: 1. No Power If the power connection is loose or not completely plugged into a live AC outlet, the system will not operate.
  • Page 16 1. IR Control Issues IR control of the VS-6 can include an IR flasher placed on the IR Sensor Input window on the front panel or a direct connection to the rear panel IR Sensor Input. If the remote control programmed to operate the VS-6 causes improper operation, the symptom could include IR flooding, no source, or the wrong source to be selected.
