    Wake-up power sequencing When the SPC is powered up, each of the power receptacles, or ports, is powered sequentially with a two-second delay between each port. This power sequencing staggers the individual loads, eliminating the potential of a blown fuse or circuit breaker.

    The SPC user interfaces described in this document are available when a serial Telnet connection is made to the unit. When an SPC is connected as a device on an Avocent appliance, these interfaces may be available or other interfaces may be provided by the Avocent appliance, depending on the configuration.

    Chapter 2: Installation Getting Started Before installing your SPC, refer to the following lists to ensure that you have all the items that shipped with the SPC as well as all other items necessary for proper installation.     SPC to your rack. To rack mount a vertical SPC: Attach one mounting bracket to the top fl ange of the SPC with one set of screws and washers through each of the slots in the bracket, as shown in Figure 2.2.

    You may end an SPC session either from the command line or the control screen. Port Naming and Grouping When a command calls for an SPC port name, you may specify it in one of two ways: a predefined absolute name or a descriptive name assigned by the administrator.

    SPC ports, access the control screen and control power to all ports. By default, the Gen1 and Gen2 users may view the status of all SPC ports, access the control screen and control power to all ports. The administrator may change these privileges.

    When you enter a valid username and password, the SPC command prompt (SPC:) appears. If a location identifier was defined, it will be displayed before the SPC: prompt. See Creating a location description and login banner in this chapter for more information.

    To display the names of commands that you may execute: At the command prompt, press Enter. A list of valid commands for your username appears. Operations Commands Operations commands manage SPC port states, provide information about the SPC environment and control session operations.

You may specify a page by its absolute name: .A for page 1, .B for page 2, .C for page 3 and .D for page 4. You may also use a page name defined on the control screen.

    Quit command or by pressing q from the control screen to ensure that confi guration changes are stored in memory. To end a session: At the SPC: prompt, type quit and press Enter. Administration Commands Administration commands include the Add, Del, List and Set commands, plus the Admnp command.

If you omit a username, you are prompted for it (Username:). If you enter an invalid username, the command aborts with the message: Name entered is NOT valid .

  • Page 39 Granting and removing administrative privileges The Admnp command grants or removes administrative privileges for usernames other than the predefined Admn user. This command allows an SPC to have more than one administrative-level user. You cannot remove administrative privileges from the Admn user.

Port Name field The editable Port Name field may contain a descriptive name for the device connected to the port. You may use this name in commands that require a port name, as an alternative to using the port’s absolute name.
  • Page 43 Reboot All command or a Reboot command for a large group. NOTE: The wake-up power sequencing feature applies only when the entire SPC unit receives power, not when the power state is changed from the command line or the control screen.
  • Page 44 The options are On and Off. The default is On. When power is first supplied to the SPC, the ports are off. Shortly after the SPC wakes up, the ports are sequenced on in two-second increments.

    You may reset the SPC to factory defaults by issuing a command or by pressing the reset button on the SPC. You must have administrator-level privileges to issue the command.

    Load ratings for individual ports, sets of four ports and all ports are affected by plug type, cordage, operating voltage and domestic versus international use. The label on the SPC indicates the operating voltage and frequencies supported, maximum total output rating, limits that apply to each individual port and limits that apply to the cumulative load of each set of four ports.
