Elite 47 Installation Guide, Rev. B
Formatting the drive
Warning. Formatting a drive erases all user data. Be sure that
you understand this principle before formatting any
hard disc drive. It is not necessary to format a drive
that previously has been used to store data, unless
your intention is to erase all user data.
Note. Seagate is not responsible for lost user data.
1.
Turn on DC power.
2.
Boot the system from a system floppy disc, CD, or from a
previously installed hard disc drive if there is one.
3.
Format the disc drive. Elite 47 disc drives are designed to
operate with a variety of operating systems. Please refer to
your system or SCSI controller manual for information about
formatting and setting up the drive. Some quick desktop
system notes are provided below.
Quick reference desktop system notes
Note. If you are unable to access the full capacity of this drive,
refer to your SCSI host adapter and operating system
instructions as there are many host adapter and operat-
ing system interactions which may limit your ability to use
the full capacity of high-capacity drives.
• DOS/Windows. Set the drive type in CMOS to " Zero," "None,"
or " No hard drive installed ." Use FDISK.EXE and FOR-
MAT.EXE.
• Macintosh. Use Apple's Disk Setup utility version 1.3.1 or a
third-party drive utility to initialize or format the drive. Apple's
Disk Setup utilities prior to version 1.3.1 only work with drives
having special Apple firmware.
