Overall Functional Description

The DHD system consists of the VX-40d, VX-50d, VX-60d, VX-80d projectors
and DHD Controller. This system is unique in the way it is controlled; the
control center for this system is located within the DHD Controller. The DHD
Controller tells the Projector to turn on or off, controls its brightness, contrast,
color temperature and more. All of this is accomplished by Runco's unique
ComLink, which is the transfer of information between the DHD Controller and
the Projector via their ComLink ports using a CAT5 cable (or similar). Therefore,
only the DHD Controller's remote control is necessary to control all aspects of
this system; though advanced calibration can be performed at the projector
during initial installation (refer to the projector's manual for details).
Besides being the system's control center, the DHD Controller is also a high-
quality scaler, which outputs all signals in the native resolution of the VX
Projector. The Composite, S-Video and Standard Definition Component signals
are sent through the DHD Controller's 10-bit decoder, de-interlaced, then scaled
to the native resolution of the Projector. In the case of HDTV or progressive DVD
signals, these are input to the RGB/Component port and bypass the DHD's de-
interlacing circuitry.
In the next chapter, the menu system will be described in detail. There are many
adjustments available to perfect the DHD's image, including typical 'front-panel
controls' as well as color temperature and other image-quality controls.
