    Write the serial number onto the Precor limited warranty card found on the back cover of this manual. Refer to Obtaining Service on page 9 and write the grounded outlet.

    Check that the Precor banner appears on the display. Place the power switch in the ON position. The Precor banner should appear on the display. If the display remains blank, check that the cable at the front of the base assembly is connected properly.

    ® Using the EFX The EFX is designed so that you can work out with minimal instruction. The direc- tions on the console and the prompts on the display help guide you through your entire workout session. A special feature of the EFX is its ability to retain information (preferred course, workout time, weight, and age) about the last workout session.

    • Remove the locking pin. Refer to page 23. • Begin your workout selections from the Precor banner. Use the SELECT key to enter the information that appears on the display during the Setup mode. • If you choose to press QUICKSTART (at the Precor banner), the system bypasses further selections and accesses the Manual course.

If the banner does not appear on the display, press the RESET key. If the display appears blank, make sure that the EFX is turned ON.

    ® The EFX 5.21i Keypad When you first turn the unit ON, the Precor banner appears in the center display window. This banner indicates that the EFX is ready to accept user entries. Keypad Tips ® • Accurate entries are required or features such as SmartRate will not work properly.

    RESISTANCE : During a workout, the RESISTANCE keys let you increase or decease the force applied against your stride. The display can show a range from 1 to 20. Setting 1 provides the least resistance. When you change the resistance by pressing the RESISTANCE key, the number that appears on the display shows the target resistance (not necessarily, the present resistance being applied) because the display can change much faster than...
