Slowdownwhenyou reachthe crestofthehill
if you cannotsee clearlywhat is on the other
side- there couldbe anotherperson,an ob-
stacle,or a sharpdrop-off.
If you start to lose traction or momentum
whenclimbing, a nddecideyou will be unable
to continue, u sethe brakesto stop.Do not at-
tempt to turn the vehicle around.With your
footon the brakepedal,lookbehindyou and
planyour descent.Shiftthe driveselectlever
into reverse so youcan useenginebrakingto
slowyourdescent. R eleasethe brakeandbe-
ginto coastdownthe hill.Useenginebraking
as much as possible, gently applying the
brakeswhennecessary.
Downhill
Check the terrain carefully before going
downhill.When possible,choosea path that
lets you drive your vehiclestraightdownhill.
Chooseyour path carefullyand drive slowly
enoughto be able to reactto obstaclesthat
youencounter.
For more traction and control,before going
downsteeperand/orrougherslopes,shiftinto
low gearand select4WD or 4WD Diff. Lock.
Enginebrakingwill helpyougodownhillslow-
ly.Goas slowlyas possible.Ifyou beginto go
too fast, apply the brakesgently.Avoid hard
applicationof the brakes,which couldcause
thevehicleto slide.
