V-Chip
The V-CHIP SETmenu
allows you to program your TV/VCR so that children
cannot see certain programs.
"II_efii:st three choices in ll]e V-CHIP SETmenu
involve soliware inside your TV/VCR (referred to as V-Chip) which allows you
to turn on V-Chip, block "IV programs
and movies based on violence, sex, or
other content you may believe children
should not view. In other words, it lets
you program your TV/VCR so it won't display certain programs.
Once you block programs,
you or other adults can unblock programs
by
entering
a password.
By default, the software inside your TV is turned "off," so if you don't want to
use this feature, you can just ignore it.
How V-Chip Works
When turned "on," the V-Chip software reads a code that most broadcasters
send with programs.
That code tells lhe software the program's
age-based
rating
(TV-MA, TV-14, etc.) and content themes [Violence (V), Adult Language (L),
etc.]. If you have blocked the rating and/or
content themes that the program
contains, the screen will be blue when you tune to that particular
channel.
Broadcaste_:s
are not required
to provide
content
themes,
so programs
received
wilh no content
tl]emes
will only be blocked
if you block
tl]eir age-based
rating.

in the
table
on the next page.

Setting the Password
The first step of d_e V-Chip setup is to set a password.
1. Press MENU on the remote 0he M!;2NUappears).
2.
Select "I37Sk'7:UP, then press ENTER.
3.
Select V-CHIP Sk"I; then press ENTER.
4.
Enter a password
using the number
buttons on your remote control, then
press ENTER. When you enter the numbers,
"*" appears
on the screen.
5.
Once you've entered
a password,
enter the same password
again for
confirmation.
If you have entered the password
correctly, the V-CHIP SET
menu appears.
