Never r unan engineindoorsor inapoorlyventilated area.Engine exhaust
contains carbonmonoxide, a nodorless a nddeadlygas.
Beforecleaning, r epairing, o r inspecting, makecertainthe bladeandall
movingpartshavestopped. D isconnect the sparkplugwireandground
against t he engineto preventunintended starting.
Check the bladeandenginemountingboltsatfrequentintervals forproper
tightness. A lso, v isuallyinspectbladefordamage(e.g., b ent,cracked, worn).
Replace bladewith the originalequipmentmanufacture's ( O.EM.) b lade
only,listedinthe Parts pages of thismanual. U se of partswhichdo not meet
the originalequipmentspecifications m ayleadto improperperformance
andcompromise safety!
Mowerbladesaresharpandcancut.Wrapthe bladeor weargloves, a nduse
extracautionwhenservicingthem.
Keep all nuts,bolts,andscrews tight to besurethe equipmentisin safe
workingcondition.
Never t amperwith safetydevices. C heck t heir proper o perationregularly.
Afterstrikingaforeignobject,stopthe engine,disconnect the sparkplug
wireandgroundagainst t he engine. T horoughly inspectthe mowerforany
damage. R epair t he damage before startingandoperating the mower.
Never a ttemptto makeawheelor cuttingheightadjustmentwhilethe
engineisrunning.
Grass c atcher c omponents, discharge c over, a ndtrail shieldaresubjectto
wearanddamage whichcouldexpose movingpartsor allowobjectsto be
thrown.For s afetyprotection,frequentlycheck components a ndreplace
immediately withoriginalequipmentmanufacturer's ( O.EM.) p artsonly,
listedinthe Partspages of thismanual. U seofpartswhichdo not meetthe
originalequipmentspecifications m ayleadto improperperformance a nd
compromise safety!
Donot change the engine's governor s ettingor over-speed t he engine.The
governor c ontrolsthe maximum safeoperatingspeed of theengine.
Check fuelline,tank,cap,andfittings frequentlyfor cracks or leaks. R eplace
if necessary.
Donot crankenginewith sparkplug removed.
Maintainor replace safetyandinstructionlabels, a snecessary.
Observe properdisposal l awsandregulations. Improper d isposal o f fluids
andmaterials canharmthe environment.
According to the Consumer Products S afetyCommission ( CPSC) andthe U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), thisproducthasanAverage Useful
Lifeofseven(7)years, o r 140hoursof operation. A t the endof theAverage
Useful L ifehavethe machine inspected annually bya Sears o r otherqualified
service dealerto ensure that all mechanical andsafetysystems areworking

SPARK ARRESTOR
Thismachineisequippedwith an internalcombustionengine andshould
not be usedon or nearany unimprovedforest-covered,brusbcoveredor
grass-covered land unlessthe engine'sexhaustsystemisequippedwith a
sparkarrestormeeting applicablelocalor state laws(if any).
If asparkarrestor isused,it shouldbe maintained in effective working order
bythe operator. Inthe Stateof California t he aboveisrequiredby law (Section
4442 of the CaliforniaPublicResources C ode). O ther statesmay havesimilar
laws.Federal l awsapply on federallands.
