Using U1, U2 (User Setting Mode); Basic Settings; Shooting Menu - Nikon COOLPIX P90 User Manual

Settings that are frequently used for P, S, A and M shooting modes can be saved
in mode dial U I or U 2.
Rotating the mode dial to U I or U 2 enables you to shoot using the saved settings.
The following settings can be saved in U I and U 2.

4 The current focus area position is saved when AF area mode is set to Manual,

_1_ Backup battery
If the internal backup battery (_139) is exhausted, the settings saved in U1 and U2 will be reset.
Writing down any important setting is recommended.
